TRN CEO turns up the heat on her other stations

Staff Writer

Jane Hastings, CEO of The Radio Network, is turning the heat up on her other stations after the revamp of Radio Hauraki.

In the recent NZ radio ratings Hauraki increased its audience, TRN say that it was directly at the expense of The Rock (run by MediaWorks).

Hastings says she has "told people here they need to be brave….They don't need to look like they're running to the finishing line with a tray of crystal glasses. Hauraki has shown us you can blow something up and rebuild it."

TRN's stations include Newstalk ZB, Classic Hits, Radio Sport, Coast and ZM.

"Hauraki was an iconic brand that had lost its way….The Hauraki playlist had evolved and was appealing to people aged over 39, and we brought it back," said Hastings.

She adds: "Newstalk ZB has been and is one of our best assets – but when you know something is good, sometimes you just think you can let it roll."

Hastings says TRN have been looking at putting new talent on Newstalk ZB. Also that their radio personalities, and their views on products and places, would take a greater role and be a valuable part of selling.
