Triple M’s Fitzy hits back at 2GB claims

Staff Writer

With 2GB taking aim at Triple M yesterday, claiming the talk station "Triples Them" in the NRL ratings (see here), David Kidd, Macquarie Radio Network PD said:

“2GB continues to deliver the highest rating NRL coverage with the most experienced on-air calling team.”

“The score is on the board; our Friday Saturday and Sunday NRL coverage and Continuous Call Team audience share is three times higher than Triple M. 2GB’s Continuous Call Team has dominated the radio ratings across all listeners and the male 25-64 age group."

“We don’t differentiate between AM and FM – we are number one across the dial.”

In response, Head of the Triple M Network Mike 'Fitzy' Fitzpatrick (pictured) sent us this email :-

Here’s the drum.

It’s the same as we’ve always said with the AFL call in Melbourne.

If you like listening to footy in black and white, AM is for you.

Triple M Football is for the footy fans who still have a pulse.

Our footy shows and call are about being the most entertaining as well as insightful and informative.

We believe you can have fun and call the footy.

It’s been suggested that the AM in question doesn’t differentiate between FM & AM – unfortunately, listeners do.

If you look at the audience share under 55, Triple M dominates in our football dayparts.

And when it comes to the male football audience, the scoreboard can’t be ignored. 2MMM footy content is the number one station for males 18-54 with a share of 10.4.

Now, I will give the AM’s their dues – when it comes to the ‘senior’ listeners, they are #1. That 55-64 audience loves them. And so they should. It’s made for them.

But for the key male demo above?

I’ll leave you to look at the scoreboard.

We love broadcasting football – whether it’s NRL or AFL – it’s part of our DNA.

Fitzy
