triple j’s Hip Hop Show farewells Hau Lātūkefu

Reporter

After a solid 14-year run, Hau Lātūkefu is hanging up the headphones on triple j’s Hip Hop Show.

In 2023, the show is set to enter a new era as it kicks off the new year with a series of residencies. Hau will mentor residents as they host the show Bars of Steel, and all things hip hop across triple j socials.

Hau says “It’s been one hell of a journey. A journey I’m super grateful for. I’ve worked with a great team, met my idols, supported amazing emerging talent, and I’ve been able to help with the evolution of hip hop and its culture in Australia.”

“Although I’ll be stepping away from the HHS mic, I won’t be too far as I’ll be supporting the next crop of hosts to continue to share the best hip hop Australia and the world has to offer, and I’ll still be hosting Double J’s Sky High.”

“Thank you for the memories and for your trust.”

Since taking over triple j’s Hip Hop Show in 2008, Hau has introduced triple j listeners to artists like ONEFOUR, Remi, Sampa the Great, and The Kid Laroi. His passion for the hip hop community is unmatched; he’s brought us a rap cypher with Nerve, ChillinIT, Alex Jones, and HUSKii (which has had over a million views) and championed emerging and established artists on Bars of Steel.

Hau is being hailed a true GOAT of triple j and Australian music.

Listen to Hau on Double J’s Sky High every Friday from 5pm.
