A special honour was bestowed upon the Daniel family when the Christian Media & Arts Australia Excellence in Media Awards were held on the Gold Coast last night.

Brothers Glenn, Terry and Richard are recipients of the 2022 CMAA Legacy Award.

With a combined 129 years of radio experience between them, the award acknowledges the family’s incredible contribution to the industry.

It was a celebration tinged with sadness, with radio still keenly feeling the loss of Glenn, whose death late last year sent shockwaves through the industry.

Terry says “We’re very honoured to receive this acknowledgment. It’s amazing to think that it all started for us in 1970 when we set up Radio 2DD in my bedroom and broadcast around our home at Baulkham Hills in Sydney.”

What started as a boyhood dream turned into radio careers for all three brothers.

Glenn started out as a cadet journalist at 2WS back in 1982.

His career later saw him work at 2SM, ABC News Radio, 2Day FM, Triple M and as News Director for Southern Cross Austereo. Up until recent months, he was also the co-host and breakfast newsreader on Sydney’s smoothfm.

Glenn’s influence and his media excellence saw him become a mentor to many current leading journalists around Australia.

Terry began his radio career at 8HA Alice Springs in 1976. He would later become Program Manager at  2GZ in Orange, and Program Director and breakfast announcer at 2CS in Coffs Harbour.

Having purchased Air News in 2019, Terry now supplies news to stations around Australia, including many CMAA Member stations.

Richard started his radio career at 8HA in 1977, later moving to variety of stations in New South Wales, Canberra and Victoria. He and his wife Julie purchased two commercial stations 2BH and Hill FM in 1998.

In 2002 he joined the Christian International Shortwave Radio facility called Voice International which was owned by Christian Vision.

Richard is still part of the CV ministry and is also an announcer at Salt FM on the Sunshine Coast.

Several other Daniel family members have also embarked on radio careers, with Glenn’s son Mark joining the Triple M Network, and Mel Fry – daughter of Richard – doing shifts at Sea FM on the Sunshine Coast.

And as Terry proudly notes, the original station of their childhood lives on.

Radio 2DD is still online today, broadcasting 24/7 out of Coffs Harbour.”
