Sea FM Hobart help DJ’s dream become a reality

Staff Writer

Sea FM Hobart and their listeners have helped a local 24 year old cancer patient's dream come true.

Dennis ‘DJ’ Allan (below) was recently told he had 12 months to live, so cancelled a planned trip with mates to the UK to see his favourite soccer team Tottenham Hotspur.

Nick & Woody from the Sea FM breakfast show then kicked off a campaign to help DJ fulfill his dream.

When the duo told DJ's story on the air the phones started ringing. Woody said, “It was incredible; people shared their experiences with leukaemia whether it was themselves, family members or friends and then the donations came in: $300, $500, $1000! We were overwhelmed by the generosity of Tasmanians as we always are.”

Nick said, “So many people were touched by his story. And not just adults – we had a six-year old drop off the $8 in her piggy bank and a nine-year-old sell $320 of cupcakes at her school.”

They managed to source a Tottenham Hotspur guernsey, signed by the entire team, tickets to the games in the UK for DJ and girlfriend Steph, return flights to the UK and nearly $3000 spending money.
