Pacific Star succeed with 3MP LAP variance
ACMA have released a variance to the Melbourne License Area Plan which address the Pacific Star Networks concerns regarding the 1377AM (formerly 3MP and MTR) signal strength.
The variation allows 1377AM to increase their maximum power from 5 to 8 kilowatts.
Additionally, it has been granted permission to change the direction of its transmission pattern to allow more effective coverage of the Melbourne market.
Whilst it is debatable as to whether the signal strength of 1377 had a material impact of the failure of the MTR venture (read here), it certainly didn't help. Pacific Star are yet to formally announce the format, or brand, that will occupy the frequency, however it appears likely it will be a reborn 3MP.
