Merrick Watts warns Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren against radio promo
This week on Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren, the brekky team launched a brand-new community service for listeners. The idea is to help Melbourne motorists who run out of fuel by delivering them a jerry can.
But ex-Nova presenter Merrick Watts warned them against the radio promo, and he speaks from experience.
Several years ago, Merrick and his then Nova brekky co-host Tim Ross offered a year’s worth of fuel to listeners who ran out of petrol on Sydney‘s busy roads.
But all hell broke loose when the winning couple’s car ground to a halt on the Harbour Bridge in one of the eight lanes at 7am on Tuesday.

Merrick said “We did encourage people to run out of fuel, and then we would come to save them or something like that, or give them cash, I don’t know.”
“We went … if people run out of fuel, won’t that annoy other people?”
“And [our producer was] like, no, no, they’ll see the humour. And we’re going, ‘Do you reckon?’ And he’s like ‘Yeah, no, they’ll see the humour in it.’
“You know what they didn’t see in it? Humour, clearly.”
Merrick went on to reveal “I had a nervous breakdown in the On Air check, in the meeting after the show, because police got involved.”
