“Melbourne has been loyal to us.” Jase, Lauren & Clint at the ACRAs
To say that Kyle & Jackie O have attracted their fair share of media attention lately would be a massive understatement. But don’t expect Jase Hawkins, Lauren Phillips and Clint Stanaway to join the pile on.
The Nova 100 Breakfast trio continue to focus on simply doing what they do.
In August, Jase & Lauren claimed the crown as Melbourne’s #1 FM Breakfast show, gaining 0.3 points for a 9.9 share in GfK Survey 5.
Survey 6 saw the show fall slightly in share, but they still hold down second spot among the FM stations.
When asked at the ACRAs on Saturday night how they felt about this latest result, Hawkins quipped “We’re feeling employed.”
“We feel like we can pay our mortgage, and that is a win.”
Put simply, they’re just having fun.
“I’ve been doing this for over twenty years and it feels like my first gig,” says Hawkins.
“It’s been a big year for us but it’s been a great year,” says Phillips. “It’s been a lot of fun and we haven’t even done a full year yet, so we feel like were still on our little first lap around the sun.”
In what many now consider a master stroke, after making way for Kyle & Jackie O on KIIS 101.1, the Jase & Lauren show was picked up by Nova.
Phillips says things haven’t changed much in the past three years.
“It’s been the same show that it was, which is focusing on people who listen to us in Melbourne, which we love.”
Stanaway adds “And Melbourne has been really loyal as well, which has been even nicer.”
Six months after launching in Melbourne, Kyle and Jackie O – who were a no-show at this year’s ACRAs – are yet to establish a local audience, falling to a 5.2 share in Breakfast.
