Meet Star 104.5’s new PD

Staff Writer

Scott Menz recently vacated the PD seat at Star 104.5 on the Central Coast to become Executive Producer for Nova's National Shows.

Who has replaced Menz ? Let's meet him….

Full name plus do you have a nickname ?

Andrew Peterson but everyone calls me Peto.

Outline your radio background. Where have you worked ?

I've been all over the joint. 8 years ago I got my start as a panel op at The Fox in Melbourne. From there I moved to SAFM to be the breakfast audio producer. After that I looked after Digital for 2Day and then the Triple M Network before I ran the day to day operations for Digital Radio at Austereo and worked on developing new talent.

Who are your radio heroes ?

There are a lot of people I admire and respect very much in radio but I only have 1 real hero – Tony Martin. I'm a big fan of Tony's work, 'Get This' especially. Tony's work ethic and commitment is nothing short of amazing. I would have loved to white ant my way on to that show.

You were out of radio for a while. How long for and what did you get up to ?

I have been out of radio for almost 18 months. I buggered off to New York for a month and came back and fell into a digital strategist role at a big UK advertising agency looking after eBay, Paypal and ARIA. I then moved to a record label to work on their digital strategy. Leaving my comfort zone and heading into the unknown has been one of the best decisions I ever made, I think being exposed to different people and ideas is really important in life. It forces you to stay fresh and creatively sharp.

What got you back in ?

I love radio and I chase the same high everyone in the industry gets when you create a great product. Your worst day doing something you love is still better than your best day doing something you're not passionate about.

It was during the time that Fitzy and Wippa brought Dangi (the shortest man in the world), that I remembered how much fun event radio is to put together. Who wouldn't want to be part of that? Yep, I had Dangi fever bad.

When the opportunity came up to be the PD of Star 104.5, it was clear that I would be a fool not to take the job, get paid for a hobby and what I'm passionate about.

Do you have any family moving to the Central Coast with you ?

I'm single and ready to mingle.

When do you start at Star 104.5 ?

Monday, 3rd of September.

What are you looking forward to most about the new gig ?

Bringing the best out of my team and being fearless.

What’s the first thing you’ll do when you walk in the door on your first day ?

A lot of listening.

What’s for dinner tonight ?

Now you're not even trying.
