Luke Sharp joins Youth Jam for Weeknights

Imagine radio presenter and Lord Mayor of Perth Basil Zempilas crossed with comedian and 2DayFM host Dave Hughes.

Well, that’s the energy Youth Jam’s newest Weeknights presenter, Luke Sharp, is channelling for his new show – professional, but fun.

Running from 6pm, Luke Sharp Live shines “a spotlight on fresh music from both established and upcoming hip-hop artists.”

Catching up with Radio Today, Luke told us, “I just want to be a part of creating something for other people to enjoy.”

“I found I was really good at talking to people and definitely not camera-shy. I just find a lot of fun in producing content of all kinds, radio included,” Luke said.

Luke’s Weeknights show is a part of Perth listener-supported youth station Youth Jam.

The online station started in 2017 with the aim of giving Perth’s youth a voice and a safe place to create. The result was the establishment of a station free from sexual/drug references, as well as explicit language.

Volunteers like Luke have the opportunity to learn about radio and share the stories and music they’re passionate about.

For his new Weeknights show, Luke says he’s “focused on creating infotainment segments about music and celebrity news/gossip.”

“There are a few music-oriented segments in the show at the moment, and I’m enjoying making those,” Luke said.

“I like that I get to talk to people about the things that I like.”

As for the future, Luke says if he stays the course, he can see himself with Nova Entertainment.

“It sounds like they have a ball over there,” Luke said.

“I would get there by gathering as many qualifications as I can along with some real experience and good ol’ fashioned hard work,” Luke said.
