Laurel Edwards celebrates 25 years on air

Staff Writer

Yesterday, Brisbane’s 4KQ host Laurel Edwards was honoured for 25 years of radio service with a special segment on the Laurel, Gary & Mark breakfast show.

The momentous occasion included highlights of Edwards’ career with 4KQ, along with interviews with her husband and country musician Troy Cassar-Daly, their children Clay and Jem, and Mark Spurway, the original program director who employed the veteran host back in 1992.

“I’m extremely proud to be celebrating this milestone with colleagues and listeners who have come to be my second family,” Edwards said.

“Another thing I’m really proud of is how 4KQ is going so strong and is still very relevant. We remain Brisbane’s Heritage radio station and more passionate listeners you will not find. A very credible US radio consultant calls us ’the most successful AM music station in the world’ and that feels pretty good.”

Rounding out the celebrations, the entire 4KQ team gathered in the ballon-filled studio as Edwards was presented with a surprise cake from her favourite bakery, Flour and Chocolate.

Keith Urban also shared a special video message for the host, who is “looking forward to the next 25 years at 4KQ.”

ARN’s national content director Duncan Campbell praised Edwards’ commitment to bringing “unwavering wit, wisdom and laughter each morning.”

“We are honoured to have spent the past 25 years with Laurel, she’s an integral part of the 4KQ team,” Campbell said. “During this time she has earned respect from everyone who works alongside her, and also from Brisbane listeners who love her as one of their own…”

Mark Spurway certainly got it right when he signed Laurel. AN amazingly good talent who has stood the test of time better than most. It was a pleasure working with her back then at KQ. Well done Laurel, you deserve the accolades.
