JOY 94.9’s Radiothon set to flourish in 2024

LGBTQIA+ community radio station JOY 94.9 is preparing for one of its biggest and most ambitious events yet – the JOY Radiothon.

This year marks 30 years on air for JOY as a voice proudly representing members of Australia’s diverse LGBTQIA+ communities.

With the JOY Radiothon starting on June 1, preparations are underway for an entire week of on-air challenges, chaos and community as the organisation raises funds to ensure JOY remains out, loud, and proud for many years to come.

Celebrating the station’s growth and the community’s evolution across its first thirty years, the theme of this year’s JOY Radiothon is FLOURISH.

From new programs celebrating multicultural diversity, to long-running favourites which entertain and inform, JOY proudly continues to provide a welcoming space and platform for people across the LGBTQIA+ acronym to flourish.

JOY Media CEO Isabelle James says the organisation’s commitment to inclusivity and fostering unity in the community remains steadfast.

“The unwavering support of our supporters is crucial for maintaining JOY’s vibrancy, especially during our highly anticipated JOY Radiothon in 2024. JOY Radiothon serves as a vital event for sustaining our unique platform as the only LGBTQIA+ station in Australia, and one of just four worldwide. Your support will ensure that JOY continues to be a beacon of light for all.”

JOY Media President David “Macca” McCarthy says JOY proudly represents the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies.

“From JOY’s presenters, podcasters, newsreaders, producers and our music team, JOY represents you. It’s important to hear your voice reflected in what we do, and to keep the issues that are important to you at the forefront of everything that we do. To help us to continue to do this, JOY Radiothon 2024 is imperative to keep us on air.”

With a target of $300,000, funds raised during JOY Radiothon will help ensure the station can continue to support and uplift diverse rainbow voices not represented in other media.

Supporters are being encouraged to help celebrate JOY’s 30th year on air by donating and renewing their membership.
