Jim Wilson quits 2GB

2GB Drive presenter Jim Wilson has pulled the plug after 2 years in the timeslot.

His last show will air tomorrow.

He has told his listeners:

“I’ve been so lucky to have been given this opportunity and my listeners have been incredible, I’m going to miss them. They’ve taken me into their lounge rooms, into their cars and to have been the #1 talk show, in a super competitive slot, three out of the last four ratings surveys is something I’m very proud of achieving…

“Yesterday we went down, and Richard Glover at ABC 702, who I have the utmost respect for as a broadcaster and as a person, was number one talk show in our slot, so I sent him a note to say congratulations. He’s a good man Richard… This decision to leave was made late last week and had nothing to do with yesterday’s survey.”

Wilson’s Drive timeslot, (which includes a sports show from 6pm), dropped by 1.3 share points in yesterday’s survey to 7%, behind KIIS, Nova, ABC Sydney and Smooth.

“In my 35 years in broadcasting, my mantra has been all about being fair and reasonable and true to myself,” said Wilson.

Nine Radio’s Managing Director, Tom Malone thanked Wilson “for his hard work, professionalism and passion over the past two and a half years. He is a person of the highest integrity and he’s championed so many great causes for our listeners during his tenure. I look forward to seeing Jim back on our TV screens, and he leaves radio with our good will and best wishes.”

There is o word yet of a replacement.

Hoping they give the gig to Michael McLaren.

Unusual timing to leave on a Thursday and not end of week. Or even stay until the end of the year which is what only 6 weeks away. Seems abrupt so GB will go searching now. Hopefully not a fully conservative host. Am worried Luke Grant may get a go.

It was inevitable, always a poor fit at GB, never took a solid stance on much, always sitting on the fence!

Whining, whingeing, negativity and a reactionary response to anything and everything new is why I listen to Glover’s positivity.

Hope Michael McLaren is offered and accepts the 2GB Drive show position.
We need him and he deserves it. Well overdue.

It is a bit unfair because Jim was receiving a very poor lead in from Deb Knight

Deb loses half of 2GB’s audience when she comes on air

Good luck Jim but really you did not fit into that slot – felt like i was listening to an afternoon sports programme most of the time – i had to turn to Richard Glover far more informative – Luke would be a great choice – leave Michael where he is on the grave yard shift – I hope Debra will leave now not that i listen to her dreadful show from what i’ve heard of it…2sm in that time slot is the way to go for talk back – Best of luck Jim.

Michael McLaren is the only presenter on this station that can bring them back to the old and preferred standards they had. He deserves better than mid-night to dawn – if he still works there.
