Heart, humour and connection: The realisation of a radio dream for Christian O’Connell
Key details have come to light on the national expansion of Gold 104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Show.
ARN has confirmed that while O’Connell’s show will be broadcast live on Gold 101.7 in Sydney and Gold 104.3 in Melbourne, his Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane shows will be heard via DAB+.
With Alex Cullen having recently joined the on-air line up of O’Connell, Patrina Jones and Riordan ‘Rio’ Lee (main photo), it’s all systems go.
Due to launch next year, the national rollout is the realisation of a long-held dream for O’Connell, who says “We’re living in a time of increasing isolation. After 27 years of doing breakfast radio, I believe more than ever in the power of shared voices and authentic connection. I’m here to help create that.”
“A show from our corner of the dial where people can feel united wherever they are, bringing people together through shared stories, laughter and something real.”
O’Connell was a prominent broadcaster in the UK before he and his family emigrated to Melbourne in 2018.
Within 18 months of its launch, he had Melbourne’s #1 FM Breakfast show.
Rather than being a show built around gossip or stunts, O’Connell says his offering is based around heart, humour and human connection.
Of Kyle & Jackie O’s disastrous launch into Melbourne, O’Connell is ready for the comparisons. However, he emphasises that they are two entirely different shows.
