Grace Garde announces departure from The Jimmy & Nath Show

SCA HObart

Executive Producer of Hit’s Jimmy & Nath ShowGrace Garde, has announced she is leaving the show to focus on her mental health, citing “severe burnout.”

Speaking on the show last night, Grace said the decision to leave wasn’t easy.

“As many of you do know, I recently took some time off. I took a couple of weeks off, and that was to deal with some issues I was having in my personal life with my mental health, and I was dealing with some pretty severe burnout, which you know, if anyone’s experienced that, it’s not a nice feeling,” Grace said.

“But over the last couple of weeks, I have taken a lot of time to kind of look inwards and self-reflect, and I have made the incredibly difficult decision to leave the Jimmy and Nath Show.”

“I wanted to sit here tonight and be really open and honest about what I’m going through and what’s happening.”

Grace not only detailed her recent struggle with mental health but also touched on her fears of potential employment trouble in the future due to her transparency.

“And there’s part of me that, you know, kind of is a bit scared saying this because, you know, I don’t want to leave radio forever and I am hoping someone will hire me after this. And I worry that future employees will see this as a sign of weakness. But I see this as a sign of immense self-compassion and something that was really hard to do, and like I said, not an easy decision, but me doing this is me taking care of myself, so this week will be my last week,” Grace said.

Jimmy and Nath have had honest discussions on the show regarding their mental health in the past. Jimmy Smith discussed his own struggles on the show recently and supported Grace with her decision to leave and focus on her recovery.

“It’s unfortunate that you know, this is what I think you need, and it’s what the show needs, it’s what we need,” said Jimmy.

“…we want to be there for you as friends, and I think that, unfortunately, that professional relationship has to take a step back so I hope that the personal relationship can take a step forward and we can be there for you as friends.”

Producer Grace has been with Jimmy and Nath for nearly four years, joining the boys on Hobart’s Hit 100.9 in 2019 before the show shot to success thanks to the help of Grace.

“You’ve been able to bring this show to a level that it was never able to get to without you being here,” said Nath.

“The person that you are and how that has rubbed off on us as a show and as people and it is… remarkable, and it’s a huge loss to us.”

In an official statement, Grace said, “Working with Jimmy & Nath has changed my life and absolutely been the highlight of my career so far. I am so grateful to SCA and especially to Sonder Novak-Booth for every opportunity I have been given in my time here,” Grace wrote.

“The decision to move on from a job I love so much has been really difficult, but I am so excited to re-discover the show as a listener and watch the boys take over the radio world.”

Grace will continue with the show for the remainder of the week before departing.

What a shame! Knew something was up! I was wondering where Gossip Grace went! My kids love listening back to it on the podcast since you moved from Hobart Breakfast.

This will and has unfortunately changed the sound and energy of the show. I didn’t realise Grace was out with mental health issues, but knew something wasn’t right!!!

The direction its been headed in the last few weeks isnt gonna to cut it for us. It’s not the same anymore.

Good luck to you Grace and congrats on taking the steps to look after your mental health!

They’re working late nights on weekdays and early mornings on weekends?

No wonder she is burned out.

Instead of putting out an offical statement maybe SCA should put out some realistic expectations for staff to help them stay healthy and succeed?

For a company that says they care about employee mental health it certainly doesn’t seem that way
