Goldrush for Australia at 2024 New York Festivals Radio Awards

Australia has featured heavily at the 2024 New York Festivals Radio Awards, with Hannah’s Story claiming a Gold Award for Nine in the Narrative/Documentary Podcast category and Shadow of Doubt (The Australian/Giddyup Productions) and House of Skulls (Marc Fennell/Audible) both scoring Gold in the Serialised Podcast category.

House of Skulls was also recognised as a finalist in the Narrative/Documentary podcast category.

There was widespread recognition for the work of  AFTRS Discipline Lead Pearl Tan, her writing and directing work and her Diversity Work podcast, which won Silver in the Innovation category, as well as a swag of finalist awards.

In the History category, ABC Sydney won Silver for  Expanse: From The Dead

Season 2 of Private Affairs (Creative Kixstart) took home a Bronze Award in the Drama Podcast category.

In the Narrative/Documentary section, Secrets We Keep: Shame, Lies and Family (SCA/LiSTNR) claimed Bronze.

It was also a finalist in the Social Issues category.

4BC Breakfast newsreader Steve Barker was again recognised for his gripping coverage of last year’s nailbiting result in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

The call – which was broadcast on Nine Radio stations 2GB, 4BC and 3AW – was a finalist in the Sports Feature category.

It’s the 4th New York Festivals Award in five years for Barker, who was also previously recognised for his news coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s death.

The second season of FW’s There’s No Place Like Home took home a Bronze Award for Best Social Justice Podcast.

ABC Radio National’s Half-Caste Legends (Earshot) was a finalist in the Human Relations category.

ABC Radio National’s Justice, But Not In My Language was a finalist in two categories

SCA/LiSTNR’s Gripped: You Don’t Know Me was a finalist for best Drama Podcast.

The ABC’s The History Listen: Laya’s Way Home also made the finalists list.
