From podcast to broadcast: Liam and Ness launch their own festive radio station
Brisbane radio duo turned podcasters Liam Renton and Ness Gibson have delivered an early Christmas present, announcing the launch of their very own festive radio station – Christmas Talk Radio.
The pair – who’ve co-hosted the popular podcast Christmas Podding for eight years following a ten-year stint together on breakfast radio – are now at the helm of a 24/7 broadcast channel offering Christmas content 365 days a year and featuring non-stop Christmas chit chat.
While Christmas lovers have been treated to more than 200 episodes of Christmas Podding, the festive besties have pioneered the international station to spread the joy, goodwill and festive fun all year round.
Broadcasting 24 hours a day, Christmas Talk Radio comes complete with live shows, repurposed content, hot topics, listener requested segment and Christmas news every hour on the hour.
It will feature hundreds of different segments which dissect Christmas topics from every angle, with discussions including food trends, social situations, organising tips, hosting low-downs, gift-giving, international traditions, plus the classis ongoing festive debate “Is Die Hard a Christmas movie”?
It’s been a big month for the podcasters, who in July appeared on a billboard in Times Square, New York, to promote Christmas in July.
“We love being back in the radio environment together,” says Gibson. “It’s where we started and still both work today, and it comes very naturally to us. Content creation has become quite niche and we’re glad people who love Christmas now have somewhere they can tune in all day, every day.”
Brisbane radio legend Kieron Atkinson is on Santa’s “nice” list, after he was instrumental in advising the duo on the dos and don’ts of a non-stop broadcast channel, learning from his experiences with setting up his own radio station ‘Xs 80s.’
“Radio’s in our blood,” says Atkinson. “Some people go on skiing holidays – we like to tinker and play with our own radio stations. It’s just a lot of fun!”
Renton attributes the success of Christmas Podding – and hopefully Christmas Talk Radio too – to the uniqueness of the product.
“We’re the only radio station on Tune In under the “Christmas Talk” category. It’s exciting to be the first to give it a go and we really see the value in providing this type of content on demand for when people want their festive fix or just want to tune in to a radio station that puts a smile on their face and makes them feel great.”
From eggnog to elves, carolling to chestnuts, Christmas Talk Radio is talking all things Christmas and is broadcasting now. Find it on Tune In 24 hours day.
