Erica Mallett speaks out on abrupt end to Sally & Erica on triple j

Former Editor & Content Director

The Sally & Erica Breakfast program on triple j was not axed, co-host Erica Mallett has insisted, instead revealing that the show came to an abrupt and immediate end because the pair could no longer work together with ease.

“Until recently, we were all planning for a 2021 where Sally and Erica would grow and grow,” she said on Instagram over the weekend.

“I wanted brekky to continue. I really did, with my whole heart. Unfortunately, the reality was that although Sally and Erica – the show was going great guns, Sally and Erica – the people were coming to the natural conclusion of their eight-year creative ride together.”

The duo announced their show was ending two weeks ago during their last broadcast.

Despite the less-than-ideal conclusion, Mallett said she was so proud of everything they had achieved since they joined forces when they were 18.

“She’s so clever and inspired and I’ve always admired that,” Mallett added of Coleman.

Mallett said she was excited to create with new people and new ideas, but reiterated how much she would miss the triple j audience.

“I can’t tell you how grateful I’ve been to be able to rock up to work and chat, laugh and listen to music with you. I’ll miss you every day. I have so many people to thank, and that I’m going to miss at triple j who will always have my heart. But I want to save that for another post,” she said.

Today it was revealed Bryce Mills and Ebony Boadu will be the new hosts of the triple J Breakfast program in 2021.
