Bryce & Ebony to take over triple j Breakfast

Former Editor & Content Director

Bryce Mills and Ebony Boadu will be the new hosts of the triple J Breakfast program in 2021.

The duo have filled in across triple j’s Breakfast and Drive slots throughout 2020, and now permanently replace Sally Coleman and Erica Mallett, who abruptly ended their Sally & Erica show two weeks ago.

Mills currently occupies the Weekend Afternoon slot and has been filling in solo for Coleman and Mallett since their departure. He will be permanently joined by Boadu in January.

This means both Weekend Afternoons and Boadu’s current posting of the Saturday night triple j House party are up for grabs. The replacements for these roles will be announced in early 2021, triple j said, adding that “there are no other major triple j programming changes”.

Boadu, also an accomplished DJ hailing from western Sydney, said she is stoked to take on the opportunity.

“Over the past two years I’ve had the most incredible time spending my Saturday nights DJing and partying with people all over the country. I’ve been so humbled and grateful for that opportunity alone, but to now be able to wake up with triple j listeners and hang out every single day in my dream workplace is still something I’m trying to fully process. I’m so stoked to have the opportunity to share my favourite new songs, talk to artists that I admire and make 1000s of new friends every morning,” she said.

Mills, who got his start in community radio on 2SER, said he was fulfilling a childhood dream.

“I was in high school when I decided that I wanted to one day host triple j Breakfast. It was pretty arrogant of me to make that declaration during Maths class with absolutely no idea how I’d get to triple j, but here we are! I can’t tell you how proud and excited I am to start this new role and get to know triple j listeners on an even deeper level,” he said.

Bryce & Ebony is the third show for triple j Breakfast in recent years. Sally & Erica took over from Ben & Liam who moved to Adelaide to take on the Nova Breakfast slot. Ben & Liam took over the slot in 2017 from Matt & Alex.

Matt Okine and Alex Dyson now host the All Day Breakfast podcast on Southern Cross Austereo’s PodcastOne. Coleman and Mallett’s next moves aren’t yet clear.

For me, this more than makes up for the Hit Network messing up their drive slots. 2021 radio has been saved! These two are so good together! Loved them filling in for breakfast and drive. So much energy, so many laughs, and really good chemistry. They’re exactly what Triple J needs right now – perfect fit.

I’m only sad that we’ll lose her for House Party now. HP now have big shoes to fill. Please pick wisely, Triple J.

Just remember your youth audience doesn’t fall for pranks, stunts and people laughing at each other’s pre planned situations or jokes.
Keep it real.
The other form of radio is on its last legs.

These two are very cringe.
The listener base deserves better from a national broadcaster, if we wanted airheads and mindless giggles there is plenty of more professional commercial stations doing that already.
… maybe we have just been spoiled until now.

Big shoes to fill, Goodluck.

Jork, “big shoes to fill”? Are you on about Sally & Erica? If you are then you clearly didn’t listen to one second of that show. These guys are much better without even trying.

They have Double J for people like you.
