91.1 Hot FM takes cheeky billboard to new heights

The Sunshine Coast has woken up to a cheeky new billboard from 91.1 Hot FM Breakfast duo Sam and Ash – and yes, the placement was absolutely intentional.
The giant, bright red billboard featuring the slogan WE LIKE IT ON TOP has been installed directly above fellow local radio station Sea FM’s signage in Maroochydore, giving locals a laugh during the morning commute.
Hot FM says the campaign is all about playful radio banter, with Sam and Ash embracing the fun side of local competition.
91.1 Hot FM General Manager Rod Winner said the station saw the funny side immediately.
“When the billboard space became available, we couldn’t stop laughing at the possibilities,” Winner said.
“It’s cheeky, it’s light-hearted, and very much the personality of Sam and Ash. We love making people smile – especially when they’re stuck at the traffic lights.”
Winner said while the billboard may raise a few eyebrows, it’s all intended in good fun.
“Radio should be fun. We all have a laugh behind the scenes and this was just too good of an opportunity to pass up. Besides … the view really is better from the top.”
The billboard has already become a talking point across the Coast, with listeners sharing photos online.
Sam and Ash can be heard weekdays on 91.1 Hot FM.

I haven’t been in radio for some time, but I recall years ago Hot91 had a large event billboard synced up to the Instagram hashtag #hot91. The team at Sea FM uploaded their own creatives and used the hashtag #hot91 to take over the billboard.
It wasn’t seen as “cheeky” or “light hearted” by the Hot 91 GM at the time. Not one bit haha. I remember a lot of angry phone calls.
They like it on top but not in the ratings apparently?
