David Dalkin to retire after 50 years in radio

Reporter

After nearly five decades in radio – working in both Australia and around the world – David Dalkin has announced his retirement.

Dalkin is currently Content Director at ARN’s 3BA and Power FM in Ballarat.

He started his radio career back in 1975 at 2AD Armidale, taking over the night shift at the station after Doug Mulray – who also began his radio journey at 2AD – moved to daytimes.

Over the decades, Dalkin has worked at various stations in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania, at one stage memorably sharing the ‘Dangerous Dave’ moniker with Triple M’s Dave Williams.

In late 1980s David was the original Program Director of 3TT Melbourne and afterwards at TTFM, when the station converted to FM in 1990. That station is now KIIS 101.1.

During the 90s, he also was Program Director at 91ZM Christchurch, and in 1996 won NZ Programmer Of The Year at the annual New Zealand Radio Awards.

In the late 90s he became Group Program Director at AMP Radio Networks (now known at ASTRO Radio) in Malaysia.

After spending 12 years at Triple M Hobart, he moved to 3BA and Power FM in 2020.

He says “I have been thinking of retiring for a while now. I realise that life flies by too fast, and I want to enjoy the next phase.”

Dalkin will officially retire in March.

Sad to be losing Dave to the industry but a well deserved retirement. One of the nicest blokes in the business and I wish him all the very best for a long and enjoyable retirement.

50 Years!
I always wanted to work for you.
You may not recall, but I phoned you one day in the 80’s asking for a gig at 3ee Cee Vee music (you were on air at the time) to seek feedback on an aircheck I sent you.
The receptionist put me through to the studio and you took my call.
I heard you do a break and so wanted to be apart of that station.
You took the time to chat and were full of encouragement.
I will never forget it.
Thank you for what you contributed to the airwaves.
