Channel 9 has revealed David Campbell will again host the annual Carols by Candlelight broadcast, along with the debut of the Melbourne station’s chief weather presenter Livinia Nixon.

Campbell, who co-hosts Today Extra for the network, also presents a weekend show on NOVA Entertainment’s smoothfm in Sydney and Melbourne, while Nixon fronts weekend breakfast on Nine Radio’s music stations – including 2UE 954, Magic 1278, 4BH 882 and 6GT DAB+.

Presented in partnership with Vision Australia, Carols will be broadcast live from Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Christmas Eve. Unlike previous years, however, the performance will feature no in-person audience.

Guest performers this year include Eurovision contestant Dami Im, opera singer Silvia Colloca, Anthony Callea, Chris Sebastian, Michael Leonardi and former Home and Away star Tim Campbell, among others. More performers are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Carols by Candlelight is Vision Australia’s largest fundraiser for the year, with funds raised over the evening going to support people who are blind or have low vision.

“There has been so much hardship and struggle, and to quote one of my favourite carols; “We need a little Christmas”. I’m hoping we can help people focus on the joy of Christmas and what we have to be thankful for,” she said.

“With incredible performers on a spectacular night I hope we can also raise some much-needed money to support children and families who are blind or have low vision.”

Campbell added, “I think this year, more than ever, we all need to celebrate the festive season with joy, with loved ones and with carols.

“It will be different not seeing the crowd holding candles up in the air, or the kids singing along, but this Christmas Eve will be as magical as ever.”
