Celebrating independence: The Hype heads to the ACRAs

Reporter

Regardless of how they fare at the ACRAs, Ed Colman and Jonathon ‘Scudda’ Skewes – hosts of The Hype radio show – reckon they’ve already scored a win for all independent show producers in Australia.

The Hype is not linked to any radio network in Australia, but is an ACRA nominee this year for Best Syndicated Program alongside Fitzy & Wippa, Carrie & Tommy and RNB Fridays.

The Hype launched in 2016 as a solo project by Scudda, airing on a single regional FM station on Saturday nights, but things quickly grew from there.

The syndicated Dance radio show currently airs across the ARN Regional and ACE networks, iHeart Dance, as well as a dozen more terrestrial and internet stations across Australia.

Scudda says “To be finalists alongside some of the greatest syndicated shows – without any backing from a network, sponsors, revenue, managers or agencies – is both humbling for us and encouraging for others in our shoes”.

Colman agrees, saying “Its an honour to serve up the biggest dance party anthems to the nation every weekend. We have so much fun putting the show together and we’re super proud to be nominated for an ACRA”.

An amazing show when commerical radio has largely moved away from pure EDM programming. Scudda now works at KIIS Melbourne so when is the KIIS Network and ARN Regional stations like Hot91.1, StarFMs in Queensland, Krock, 7HO, and Eagle/SnowFM going to finally pick up this excellent show?
