Brisbane confronts Laurie
Yesterday we reported on a revealing article with Meshel Laurie, co-host of Nova's national drive show. See it in full here.
Two things from the article have caused a backlash today.
Her five miserable years hosting a top-rating breakfast radio show in Brisbane. ("I hated the people I was working with and they hated me . . . we almost killed each other and then it imploded.")
and…
"Brisbane radio is really sexist….But so is Brisbane."
We saw one tweet from @sarahdobsonroxs who said @Meshel_Laurie I'm one of those sexist Brisbaneites ,take a minute to get down off your Melbourne high horse and remember were u came from
Now it has escalated, with another article in the Courier Mail and discussions happening on multiple breakfast shows in Brisbane.
Triple M's The Grill Team took this call…
"She's just shot down everything Brisbane Marketing and Queensland Tourism has been doing to promote Queensland as a modern city and state."
Ashley Bradnam, her former Nova 106.9 breakfast co-host said…
"I read the article in Confidential and I couldn't believe it, I was actually shocked. I never hated Meshel, in fact I have a lot of respect for her. (We) didn't get on that well but I would never use the word hate. She has a real crack at Brisbane and this really pisses me off. Brisbane has been nothing but great for Meshel Laurie and has done nothing but enhance her career."
