Barry Drinkwater is returning to full time radio with River 949
Reporter
Barry Drinkwater has been appointed as Afternoon Announcer assisting in music and programming on River 949.
His return to full time radio follows decades in the industry including on air roles with Triple M, B105 and 4KQ Brisbane, and as the inaugural Content Director of ARN’s 97.3 (now KIIS 973) and 4KQ.
Barry is looking forward to his return, saying “After a relaxing 12 months working at home, the chance to do some live and local radio at River sounds just perfect to me. I can’t wait to have some fun with the River 949 team from next week.”
Long-time River Content Director Drew Chapman says “It’s a massive coup to have someone of his experience on the team who will no doubt help us to make the River brand even stronger.”
Station Manager and former colleague David Wiltshire is also thrilled to be working with Barry again: “I can’t wait to welcome him back into the industry that he belongs in.”
Barry joins the River team from Monday October 17.

Fantastic news! Loved listening to Barry over the years – he has the best voice! Go River 949
Congrats Mate – well done!
Barry ain’t just coming to Ipswich to help a little bit and v-track most of the afternoons session even though it’s a 35min trip for him from home.
I’d give it 6 months before Drew Chapman decides it’s time for a “new adventure” and to “spend more time with the family”.
Remember, Barry is back with ARN now…the people that decided his time was up at 97.3fm.
Recalling how enthusiastic Campo was on his LinkedIn page to again be within the ARN family, looking forward to the next installment of his boundless enthusiasm to again be working with Baz.
