Radio Ratings: Big swings away from Hit and KOFM across the board in Newcastle Survey #2

Former Assistant Editor

Southern Cross Austereo stations remain dominant in Newcastle following 2018’s second radio ratings survey, despite significant losses in share overall, on Breakfast and Drive for both Hit and KOFM.

KOFM (soon to be rebranded to Triple M Newcastle), retained top spot overall in People 10+ despite falling to a 14% share (-2.8).

Hit106.9 slid even further in the same category, plummetting to 12.7% (-3.4).

News was mixed for ABC stations overall as triple j fell to 10.9% (-1.3) while over on the AM band ABC 1233 was the big winner, rising to a strong 10.6% share (+2.0).

Results in Breakfast were reflective of the overall trend, with KOFM’s Tanya and Steve on 16.8% (-2.3) and Hit106.9’s Nick, Jess and Simon on 11.5% (-3.1) holding on to #1 and #2 on the FM band despite downward swings.

Ben and Liam on triple j largely held their share, sitting just behind Hit on 10.6% (-0.9).

ABC Newcastle’s Breakfast show with Garth Russell is now the second-most listened to show overall between 5:30am-9am, rising to a 14.9% share (+2.0).

Hit Network’s Hughesy and Kate held onto #1 on Drive, holding 17.5% (-3.5).

triple j’s Veronica and Lewis had a great result in the slot. The duo held steady with 14.8% (-0.1) but it was enough to take second spot off Kennedy and Molloy on KOFM who saw a massive downturn of -5 ratings points to finish with just 13.4%.

Bad result for Hit breaky but if you listen to the show it sounds like a cool kids club. Maybe they miss Sophie from that show. Kofm will be back, Steve and Tanya are the best announcers in Newcastle.

New Fm overtake KO 25-39 and they are number 2 40-54 be a while since they looked that strong? look out for the big $ promotion to rectify that.
