Lawrence Mooney has vanished from the Triple M airwaves, fueling rumours he may not return to the show next year.
It is the season for contract renewals, so it is not unusual for lineup changes at this time of year, but Mooney’s contract was set to run for another 12 months, so his absence is unexpected.
Mark Geyer, who was set to join the show next year, is on air this morning in Mooney’s place.
The show scored 4.6% in the latest ratings survey, which may not be enough to justify Mooney’s reported $2 million paycheck. The show peaked at 6.7 in Survey 2 this year, but has been sitting in the 4s in recent books, as shown in this radioinfo chart.
The Guardian reports that there may have been clashes with other staff members recently.
Like most breakfast personalities Mooney has always put himself out there warts and all, talking about many personal topics on air and online, for example, as in the old video below, but he has not commented on the reasons for his recent absence at this time.
