Wave 96.5 celebrates as Tones and I puts the ‘I’ in Illawarra

The Illawarra’s Wave FM 96.5 is in celebration mode, after global superstar Tones & I last night confirmed Wollongong as the second town on her Australian concert roster.

Just over a week ago, Tones & I sent social media into a frenzy and local radio stations into overdrive, when she invited suggestions for an Aussie town to host her next gig.

In Cairns, fellow ARN station Star 102.7 jumped on board the campaign to get the Victorian indie artist to perform at a local pub in the tiny rural town of El Arish.

Tones and I chose Ingham in Queensland – just over an hour down the road from El Arish.

But that wasn’t the end of it.

Now, she’s announced she’s heading to not just one town, but five.

In the Illawarra, Wave 96.5 led the charge, hitting the streets, engaging with locals and getting them to join its quest to get Tones & I to Wollongong.

And the campaign has paid off, with Tones and I officially adding Wollongong to her list of shows.

Wave 96.5 Drive show host Mick Carauna said “Tones and I, you have made a grown man cry!”

Wave 96.5 says the most incredible part of its campaign was seeing the entire Illawarra region come together, demonstrating the importance of local radio.

Tones & I will perform in Wollongong on Friday, February 27.
