Pete Deppeler shares never-before-told KIIS story

Pete Deppeler’s recent press tour has mostly focused on the big names: Kyle, Jackie O, Christian, KIIS and GOLD.

But now, for the first time, Deppeler – aka Intern Pete – has told a story from one of his first jobs at KIIS, which he has never shared publicly before.

On the latest episode of Advice Accreditation Bureau – the comedy podcast hosted by former ARN Head of Branded Content and Influencer Network Andy Procopis – Pete shares the incredible lengths he went to, to get interviews with the cast of Modern Family.

The mission was simple: get audio with the Modern Family cast while they were in Australia.

The problem: they weren’t doing press.

So Pete did what Breakfast radio producers have done since the dawn of commercial FM radio:

He went to the airport.

At first, it worked. Pete managed to grab Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson as they arrived.

But when Sofia Vergara and Ed O’Neill flew in the next day, the rest of the media had caught on, the airport was chaos … and Pete left with nothing.

Back at the studio, feeling deflated, Pete joked with Jackie O about how good it would be if he could fly to LA, board the flight with the rest of the cast, and interview them before anyone else got the chance.

Unfortunately, the plane had already left. So Pete found another way.

He flew to New Zealand, stayed for two hours, then flew straight back to Australia, landing at the same time as the cast’s flight from LA so he could meet them at baggage claim from inside arrivals.

It worked. Until it didn’t.

Pete – who, in the post Kyle & Jackie O Show era – recently jumped over to the GOLD Network side of the ARN fence to join The Christian O’Connell Show, also shares the advice he swears by, the good advice he thinks is bad, and most importantly, what should a listener do when a friend keeps chasing them for $30.

“If people want industry insight, Pete has done plenty of interviews about the move,” says Procopis.

“I wanted to know what advice has actually stayed with him. What does he try to ignore? And what kind of person flies to New Zealand for two hours to beat the Australian press to baggage claim?”
