SCA stations continue to dominate the local radio landscape in the second GfK Survey of the year for Newcastle.

Despite a share drop of 1.7 to 21.1, 102.9 Triple M still reigns among all people 10+, followed by Hit 106.9 – which held steady – and 105.3 NEWFM, which gained 0.8 to be third overall.

NEWFM made some serious headway, with a colossal leap in the 10-17 age demographic, up 9.1 to 23.4.

Experienced Triple M duo Tanya Wilks and Steve Graham continue to rule the early timeslot, still far and away the leading breakfast show, despite dropping 1.4 to a 23.2 share. Next is Hit’s Jess & Ducko (+0.3 to 16.1) then triple j (-0.6 to 10.6).

SCA Head of Regional Content Blair Woodcock saidWe’re proud of today’s survey results, which reaffirm SCA’s dominant position in Newcastle, especially in the all-important 25-54 ‘Audience That Matters’ demographic. SCA remains the clear #1 network in this key audience, reaching more than 60% of locals.”

“It’s fantastic to see both Triple M and Hit continue to lead the market with the biggest Breakfast audiences in town – each attracting 105,000 listeners – and maintaining the two largest audiences’ station-wide. At Triple M, Tanya & Steve (Tanya Wilks and Steve Graham) continue their juggernaut run, delivering another #1 Breakfast result (23.2% share) thanks to engaging live and local content like the hugely successful ‘Date My Mate’ live dating event and in-studio music performances.”

“Meanwhile on Hit 106.9, Jess & Ducko’s (Jess Farchione and Nick ‘Ducko’ Allen-Ducant) dynamic and laugh-out-loud moments are resonating strongly with listeners, lifting their Breakfast share to a 16.1% share.”

“Congratulations to our Newcastle teams on a result that reflects their hard work, creativity, and connection with audiences – it’s fantastic to see their efforts deliver a standout result in the 25-54 demographic for SCA today.”
