The Australian Open is radio’s most advertised sporting event

Australia’s sporting summer has ramped up on radio over the past few months, with plenty of advertising spots heard for major sporting events.

AirCheck data has found that the Australian Open tennis tournament was the most advertised sporting event over the last three weeks, with a massive 1,294 spots.

It was way ahead of the second most-advertised, the Hyundai A-League, which had 747 occurrences.

“SEN+ and SEN aired the most Australian Open ads, accounting for 85% of spots, which is no surprise as they are the official radio broadcast partner,” said AirCheck client services executive Riarne Gale.

When it came to big sporting brands, Rebel Sport had twice as many spots as Anaconda sporting goods.

Meantime the Adelaide Strikers was the most-advertised sports team, and Ladbrokes was the most advertised gambling brand.

AirCheck recently revealed radio’s most-advertised brand in 2018, with Harvey Norman taking the honours.
