Sydney’s Weather Extremes

Staff Writer

It is one year today since devastating bushfires destroyed almost 200 homes in Sydney’s Blue Mountains.  With Sydney lashed by extreme weather overnight with storms and flash flooding, it's a remarkable example of the extreme weather we experience in Australia, a year ago scorching temperatures and bushfires, today snow!

2UE’s Drive Presenter Justin Smith will be doing his show from the Blue Mountains this afternoon, however it will be an OB with a difference, it will be completely mobile.

Instead of broadcasting from a fixed location Justin will be moving across the mountains during his three hour program. He will cover the progress that has been made over the past 12 months, visiting the areas which were ripped apart by the fires, talking to locals who lost their homes and have had to rebuild.

While live on air he'll travel up the mountains to Katoomba and visit the tourist areas live from  the iconic Skyway, which will be a first.

Justin will also cover the situation in the Blue Mountains today, which has seen homes damaged, roads blocked, train lines disrupted and even snow falling.
