American podcasts are making their impact felt on the Australian Podcast Ranker, with titles from newly added creators Stitcher and ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network flooding the Top 10 in a huge shakeup to Australia’s Top 100 podcasts.

Just days after Commercial Radio Australia announced the ranker would expand to include many popular American podcasts, iHeartPodcast’s ‘Stuff You Should Know (SYSK) goes straight to #1, knocking off Hamish & Andy.

Stuff You Should Know first launched in 2008 and now has over 1,400 episodes, publishing weekly and hosted by Josh Clark and ‘Chuck’ Bryant.

My Favourite Murder (#3) and Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations (#7) are both published by Stitcher, and land in the Top 10 on the second published ranker for 2020.

The latest Australian Podcast Ranker reports on the period from January 20 to February 16.

“By having it international podcasts in the Ranker, it’s representative of a lot of what our listening is,” ARN commercial product & audio partnerships director Corey Layton told Mumbrella.

“If you think about what are your favourite songs, or what are your favourite movies, chances are while there will absolutely be Australian content in your answer, but there will also be international content, and that’s what happens with podcasts.

“It’s not all Australian only, and so like the top box office chart, or the top music chart, it makes sense for it to be representative of what Australians’ tastes are.”

NewsCorp Australia’s From The Newsroom is another debutant, landing at #2, while radio catch-up podcasts NOVA’s Kate, Tim & Marty and ARN’s Kyle & Jackie O make up the Top 5.

“The ranker shows Australians have a diverse and growing range of interests when it comes to podcast listening,” said CRA chief executive Joan Warner when announcing the expanded ranker.

“We’re pleased to welcome the new publishers with US titles to the top 100, so we can better reflect what’s popular and trending, which is valuable information for both publishers and advertisers.”

Data for the ranker is provided by Triton Digital in accordance with IAB Tech Lab’s Podcast Measurement Guidelines.
