The Australian Podcast Ranker will now include popular American podcasts, with titles from the iHeartPodcast Network and Stitcher.

The news follows the launch of ARN’s iHeartPodcast Network Australia, which represents sales for all local down.loads of the iHeartPodcast Network.

Titles that will now be eligible for the ranker, as a result, include Stuff You Should Know, Stuff You Missed in History Class and the true-crime series DISGRACELAND.

Commercial Radio Australia’s Podcast Ranker will also include podcasts from Stitcher, which are represented by Rob Lowenthal’s Wooshkaa in Australia, with Freakonomics Radio, U Oprah Winfrey’s SuperSoul Conversations and My Favorite Murder among those joining.

All of the new podcasts include Australian geo-targeted advertising.

“The ranker shows Australians have a diverse and growing range of interests when it comes to podcast listening,” said CRA chief executive Joan Warner.

“We’re pleased to welcome the new publishers with US titles to the top 100, so we can better reflect what’s popular and trending, which is valuable information for both publishers and advertisers.”

The Australian Podcast Ranker reports on the most downloaded podcasts amongst participating publishers, with the next ranker to be released Thursday, March 5.

The ranker has come under fire from some in the industry, including Josh Janssen of The Daily Talks Show and former Hit92.9 host Ryan John, who’ve both criticised radio networks for gaming the system and releasing multiple versions of show catch-up podcasts.

“It’s fraudulent. The whole point of it is to go ‘look how powerful we are we’ve got this many listeners, and it’s not correct so it’s lying,” said Jon last month.

Podcasts in the ranker accounted for 16.2 million downloads over the four-week period from January 20 to February 16.
