Gold 104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Show has joined forces with Mums Supporting Families In Need (MSFIN) to raise money for struggling families this Christmas.

With greater demand for support than ever, MSFIN has reached out to The Christian O’Connell Show for help.

As a result, Christian O’Connell’s Hamper Claus launched this year, setting the goal to raise $32,500 for MSFIN before raising nearly $80,000 in five days – more than double the initial goal.

MSFIN is a non-profit charity supporting the community’s most vulnerable families through the provision of material aid, distributing hampers throughout the year but especially at Christmas. 

“So many families are doing it tough right now, and no child or family should ever go without the essentials,” said O’Connell.

“When MSFIN first reached out to me, I knew I could use the power of radio to make a difference, and I’m so thrilled with how our listeners and clients have jumped on board to help.”

With each hamper costing $65 to make, MSFIN hoped to raise money for 500 hampers, with all donations going directly to make those hampers. 

Christian encouraged listeners to give whatever they could afford, with personal donations ranging from $5 up to $1,000 and business donations up to $19,500. 

The target was achieved and nearly $80,000 has been raised, which will help over 1200 families in need.

“To say it has been overwhelming is an understatement. We never expected to raise this much money and are humbled by the generosity of everyone who has helped us sprinkle some Christmas magic for families who are doing it a little bit tough,” said Kim Michod from MSFIN.  

“To everyone who listened and donated, and to Christian and his wonderful team who helped us navigate unchartered waters of being in the spotlight, we thank you.”
