Broncos hero Dennis Scott joins Christian O’Connell’s Save Our Pub campaign
Selling Houses Australia landscaper and former NRL Broncos premiership winner Dennis Scott has joined ARN’s Save Our Pub campaign, signing up to transform the beer garden of a struggling regional pub as part of a national community effort.
Scott is leading the makeover of the beer garden at The Criterion Hotel in Helidon, Queensland, bringing his landscaping expertise to revitalise the venue’s outdoor space ahead of a live broadcast and grand reopening on Friday, June 26, when the full makeover will be revealed.
Led by The Christian O’Connell Show on the GOLD Network and backed by XXXX, Save Our Pub is a national, cross-platform initiative celebrating the role local pubs play at the heart of Australian life, while providing practical support to venues doing it tough.
The campaign is currently focused on The Criterion Hotel – one of the last remaining pubs in the region.
Since taking over the historic venue two years ago, owners Gary and Tracey have worked tirelessly to restore it while facing significant personal and financial challenges.
Alongside Dennis, locals, listeners and tradies are coming together to help bring the pub back to life, from repairs and repainting to revitalising the dining and bar areas, all of it building towards the official reopening on Friday.
A live broadcast of The Christian O’Connell Show across the GOLD Network from The Criterion Hotel on Friday, June 26 will mark the venue’s official reopening.
Listeners can follow the journey on The Christian O’Connell Show, airing 6-10am weekdays on GOLD101.7 in Sydney, and 6-9am on GOLD104.3 in Melbourne, GOLD DAB+ in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, and via the free iHeart app.
