Spotify’s Australian Music Global Impact list features local acts to watch

Every six months Spotify Australia releases its Australian Music Global Impact List, the Top 30 tracks from local artists released in 2024 up until June 30, with the biggest global impact on Spotify outside of Australia. You would imagine it would be similar to the National Radio Aircheck Charts top 50 from the same time period, of what is being played in Australia, but it’s very much not. Only one song, Lighter by 5SOS, David Guetta and Galantis, appears on both.

The No 1 artist on Spotify Australia’s Global Impact list, Lithe, whose EP is pictured, was unfamiliar to me. The Melbourne hip hop artist’s Fall Back has had an extraordinary 127 million streams on the platform. You can see below that Like We Wrote, also on the Global Impact list and just shy of 2 minutes long, has also had 11 million listens.

No 2, the UK EDM producer Chris Lake‘s remix of Gotye and Kimbra‘s Somebody That I Used to Know, just called Somebody, has had 75 million. Lighter, 41 million. It had had 8000 spins on Australian radio in the first half of this year and was No 22 on Aircheck’s similar chart below.

AirCheck’s No 1, CYRIL’s Stumblin’ In, also an Australian dance producer with a new twist on an old song, must have been released last year as it is up to 253 million streams on Spotify.

Showing the power of social media, Fall Back topped Spotify’s Viral Charts via the response on Instagram and TikTok, and reached #1 Globally on Instagram Reels in May.
