Scoop: Multiple redundancies as SCA and VEVO part ways

Former Assistant Editor

Southern Cross Austereo’s partnership with VEVO has come to an end, with reports that VEVO has chosen not to renew their contract and that several staff have lost their jobs in the process.

The two companies had worked together since 2016, when SCA secured exclusive rights to VEVO content and digital inventory within Australia.

At the time SCA explained that the move was set to strengthen their digital portfolio and enhance its ability to provide a premium product for advertisers.

It has now has emerged that VEVO have decided not to extend their contract with SCA, news which follows a series of departures from the video company including head of product Mark Hall in January and CEO Eric Huggers in December 2017.

“Unfortunately, SCA have been advised by Vevo that they will not be renewing our agreement beyond its current term, which ends at the end of February 2018,” an SCA spokesperson told Radio Today.

“This is as a result of a global decision made by Vevo and it affects all of Vevo’s international partners, including SCA. It was a decision that was unfortunately out of our control.”

Radio Today also understands that multiple staff from SCA’s digital sales team have been let go in light of recent developments.

The affected members of the team were offered re-deployment in other areas within SCA, the spokesperson said, and while some accepted new roles others chose to move on.
