Smallzy’s Surgery to wrap up on the Nova Network after 13 years
After the surprise announcement this morning, August 11, that Dean ‘Clairsy’ Clairs is departing ARN’s 96FM breakfast show with this Friday being his last day, now Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small, whose Smallzy’s Surgery has broadcast from 8pm nationally across the Nova Network for more than a decade, is also departing the same day.
Smallzy and Nova Nova Entertainment made the announcement on Linkedin with Smallzy thanking everyone who has joined him on and for his night show over the years.
Awww don’t leave usss smallzy!
I wonder if Ash (triple j) is taken over from smallzy?
is it really the end…
2DayFM Breakfast in 2026.
Not really any breakfast opportunities at NOVA.
Fits the new music format and knows the artists.
You heard it hear first.
The big question: Did he jump or was he pushed?
Age wise, he’d now be a bit outside Nova’s core demographic (41 if the info I can find online is correct) while from a general radio perspective, night shows seem to be the easiest for networks to cut. Not too difficult to imagine that Nova might just bump Maddy Rowe and her Aus Music Show up to 8pm from next week, with automated tunes from 10pm to midnight.
@the wiz
Yes! I reckon him and Emma would be a good pairing given Emma has some experience with the edge (CADA)
He blitzed the weaker SCA and KIIS night show. TV or SCA / KIIS in the future? Watch this space. Nova should put Ben and Liam on and try a new approach.
Always thought Tim Blackwell would make a great host for this spot given his passion for music.
But Mel Tracina could be a great choice too she’s an absolute power house.
Ben Liam and Belle are great talent too. Hopefully nova continues supporting them properly.
@The Wiz: Surely, Nic & Loren have to be the leading candidates for a future 2DayFM breakfast program? Everything I’ve heard about N&L, would point towards them potentially making for the – genuinely – best brekky show on 104.1 since the K&JO days.
@Sean: Didn’t Mitch Churi used to rate OK for KIIS (at least in Sydney)? Although I don’t that network has done so crash hot at nights this year.
If Smallzy stays in radio, I reckon he might go on a hiatus before making a comeback once the Gold/Smooth-type formats have shifted away from 80s and (to at least some extent) 90s music.
