Rex Hunt leaves 3AW

Staff Writer

Long-serving commentator Rex Hunt is leaving Melbourne’s 3AW.

In a note sent to staff, seen by Radio Today, station manager Stephen Beers said the sad news came as Hunt looks to focus on his family.

“As much as he has loved his return to 3AW and we have loved having him on Footy Nightline, we wish him well for the future,” Beers said.

“Rex knows the door is always open for him.”

Hunt returned to 3AW for the bushfire relief State of Origin last year. Prior to that, he’d been a commentator for over two decades at the station.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, he played over 200 VFL matches for clubs including Geelong, Richmond and St Kilda.

I have enjoyed Footy Nightline with Rex on Friday and Saturday Nights he has been very entertaining, have enjoyed his humor and the callers that rang his show when he is on, and also have been starting to enjoy clips of his old Fishing TV Show on Youtube and of course his entertaining football commentary’s. It just won’t be the same without Rex Hunt, Of course family does comes first so to him and his family all the best for the future We will miss him on the radio.
