Rex Hunt returns to 3AW for bushfire relief State of Origin

Former Assistant Editor

Legendary AFL caller Rex Hunt will be back in the commentary box on Friday for the State of Origin for Bushfire Relief match.

Hunt spent over 20 years as a commentator for 3AW, and returns to the station on February 28 for the special fundraising event at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.

Prior to his career behind the mic, Hunt played 202 VFL matches between 1968 and 1978 with Richmond, Geelong and St Kilda, a career that included two VFL premierships with Richmond in 1969 and 1973.

“What we’ve seen throughout Australia this summer has been heartbreaking,” he said.

“What a wonderful idea to call on the great names of the AFL and have the State of Origin return.

“The night is going to be full of emotion for many who have had their lives affected by the bushfires. I know it’s going to be a really special occasion and I can’t wait to be part of it, calling the action for 3AW.”

Hunt will be joined by Shane McInnes and Matthew Lloyd, as well as Brad Hardie.

The game is the first State Of Original AFL game since 1999, and kicks off at 7pm on Friday, Februart 28.
