Outright #1 in Sydney: Ultra-Smooth finish to 2025
NOVA Entertainment is in full-on celebration mode, after Smooth FM 95.3 claimed the crown as Sydney’s outright #1 station, knocking 2GB off its perch with a share of 13% in the final metro radio survey for 2025.
The Smooth team had a blinder, with Smooth 95.3 also Sydney’s outright #1 station in Mornings with Ty Frost (15%), Afternoons with Simon Diaz (13.3%), Drive with Byron Webb (12.7%), Evenings with Cam Daddo (12.7%) and Weekends (14.3%).
Smooth Sydney also takes the mantle as the most listened to station in Australia, with an astonishing cume figure of 1.363 million listeners.
In Melbourne, Smooth FM 91.5 finished the year as the city’s #2 FM station with a share of 8.5%.
Mike Perso’s More Music Breakfast Show enjoyed the highest increase in share of any Melbourne brekky show, up 0.6% to 7.4.
Smooth’s Head of Programming Peter Clay says the GfK Survey 8 results bode well for a strong showing in 2026:
“Whilst these figures look back at the 2025 ratings periods, they highlight the strength of the Smooth FM network as we move forward into 2026. Smooth FM 95.3 is Sydney’s outright #1 station and the most listened-to station in the country, and with strong results in Melbourne and the rest of the country, Smooth starts the year from an incredible position.”

Look at the once great 2 Day, what a gigantic fall from grace
@Peter
Very sad. I really enjoying new sound of 2Day…so disappointing that ratings didn’t go up
It’s been said before and probably will be again: SCA really need to take the “nuclear” option with 2DayFM by relaunching it as a completely new station (name, logo, format, breakfast show, on-air sound…the lot), just as 95.3 and 106.5 successfully were by their parent companies all those years ago.
But as for the topic at hand, I wouldn’t mind predicting that Smooth 95.3 very well could soar to even greater ratings heights in 2026 especially in light of the changes to 101.7 breakfast.
