Back to the Future with radio ratings survey 8

In a departure from tradition, the results for the last year’s final 2025 survey have just been released. It’s a back to the future moment, as Sarah wrote in yesterday’s story.

The strategy for the change in release dates from December of that ratings year to January of the following year is to get radio audience numbers in front of advertisers early in the calendar year, rather than waiting until March, as has been the previous practice.

The numbers are below, but of course some shows now have different presenters, so these results will present a snapshot in time that is relevant for some some stations, but not to others that have changed their lineups.

The most significant change is on ARN’s Gold network, where Christian O’Connell has replaced local breakfast shows and Jonesy and Amanda are now presenting a national drive show. We will have to wait until the 2026 survey results drop in March to get an indication of any trends for that show.

Other 2025 lineups that have changed in 2026 are:

  • The Jimmy and Nath Show with Emma – 2Day FM Sydney
  • Vossy and Brandy – SEN 1170 Sydney
  • Ash, Luttsy and Nikki Osborne – Nova 106.9 Brisbane
  • Peter Fegan – 4BC Brisbane
  • Hayley and Max – Mix 102.3 Adelaide
  • Bernie and Emma G – SAFM Adelaide
  • Pete & Kymba with Ben Cousins – Mix 94.5 Perth

The survey was conducted for CRA between Sun Oct 5 to Sat Dec 13 2025, which includes the beginning of the Australia v England Ashes cricket season. The previous 2025 Survey 7 results are here.

Pretty funny from old DC.
Ineptly sets the Hit Network on fire, now watches it burn from the other side.

Maybe there’s something I’m missing here, but I’m not sure why ARN decided to give KIIS 97.3 breakfast a reprieve while persisting with the networking of brekky and drive programs on Gold. Jonesy & Amanda’s ratings *increased* during their final survey (a bit behind Smooth, but 9.7% vs 10.1% is definitely healthy/competitive) while Robin, Kip & Corey fell below 4BH!

Similarly, 2DayFM persisting with Nath & Emma following Jimmy’s departure. You could understand if 104.1 brekky was gaining ratings momentum, however they were beaten by 2UE’s low-budget and interstate-presented breakfast program!

While in fairness the ACE-operated AM music station is in a better ratings position than it was a year ago, this observer still can’t help but feel that Classic Hits 2UE needs a more targeted marketing campaign and stronger, more locally based breakfast show if they’re to benefit from the changes to Gold 101.7!

Although one can reasonably expect 2GB to experience some form of post-Bondi ratings resurgence in Survey #1, you’d think Smooth 95.3 might see an even higher overall share at some point this year – especially now that ARN have bumped J&A to Drive. Granted, that Bogart & Emma are already doing well but another 2-3% (which you’d think they’re likely to pick up) will get them officially dancing with Ben Fordham + Kyle & Jackie O for Sydney breakfast radio ratings supremacy!
