One of the great success stories of Brisbane community radio station 4ZZZ is Only Human, a disability-led program with a focus on social justice issues.

At its heart is the notion that people with disabilities are disability experts, qualified by their own lived experience.

The show recently chalked up a major milestone, celebrating its 500th episode with an outside broadcast at Netherworld Arcade.

Only Human recently expanded its team, which Station Manager Jack McDonnell says brings new perspectives to the station’s content and diversity of participation.

“Accessibility is complex and can present a challenge in a fast-paced environment to focus on meaningful support.”

With funding assistance from the Community Broadcasting  Foundation, Only Human has in recent times been able to expand on the role of its Executive Producer Belle to include volunteer support, scheduling content and creating a roster for volunteers.

The close-knit team behind the show is on a mission to boost its listenership and social media following, building relationships with disability and social justice-focused organisations and engaging new volunteers.

The local ‘Zed’ community welcomes people with disabilities who have an interest in community radio.

The station’s goal is to boost overall participation at the station by creating an inclusive and comfortable environment, with a key highlight the grand unveiling of its new automated and accessible front door.

In related news, Australia’s Arts Industries are being encouraged to participate in a national fundraising day, supported by the government initiative AusArtDay.

AusArt Day is a nationwide, sector-wide fundraising initiative designed to mobilise artists and arts organisations to raise funds for their work and creative ambitions on a single, powerful day. This unified call to action aims to amplify the visibility of arts philanthropy and inspire greater generosity across the country.

This inaugural event is more than a fundraiser—it’s a national public movement that celebrates and elevates the role of the arts in Australian life.

It will take place for the first time on Thursday 23 October 2025.  Find out more here.
