Oliver Peterson departs 6PR for ABC Radio Perth Drive

Oliver ‘Oly’ Peterson will take over 720 ABC Radio Perth Drive in 2026 after Gary Adshead announced last month he will wrap up at the end of this year.

Oly announced the news to his 6PR Perth LIVE listeners this afternoon. You can listen above.

Peterson began his career as a cadet in the ABC Perth newsroom, working in news and current affairs for almost two decades including broadcasting from the main street of Carnarvon on the day Cleo Smith was found.

Manager of ABC Radio Perth Danielle Benda said:

“Oly has great energy and a deep knowledge of Perth and our concerns and issues. He also has a deep affection for this city and what makes it such a great place to live. I am greatly looking forward to having him at ABC Radio Perth.”

Peterson, who was the youngest full-time talkback radio presenter in Australia at 6PR, said he was “pumped” about moving back to the ABC:

“Radio is the best medium and I can’t wait to re-connect with the passionate and informed ABC audience. I really want to build a show around you with a strong emphasis on talkback, as I see it as the original social media. Our phone lines will always be open so we can share with each other what is going on and what matters to you.

Drive will continue to inform and entertain as we steer into the news, the stories and issues to set the agenda and get Perth talking.”
