News and nuptials with Kerrie Turner

Mix 102.3 Adelaide newsreader Kerrie Turner has added another string to her bow by becoming a celebrant and wedding planner.

She officiated at her first nuptials on Saturday, marrying listeners Leah and Ash, who won the wedding of their dreams in a competition called “Write Your Own Cheque”.

But rather than receiving a cheque for a thousand dollars, breakfast duo ‘Jodie and Soda’ decided to gift them the cost of the wedding after hearing their story.

The couple’s had to postpone their wedding a number of times with their five-year-old son Murray suffering a serious heart condition.

But despite a last-minute health scare with their son, they finally tied the knot on Saturday at the Old Noarlunga Football Club in Adelaide’s south.

Having only become registered in July, Kerrie says it was a real buzz helping the couple seal their relationship in front of family and friends.

“I worked with them to create their ceremony and it all ran smoothly.  They were so relaxed and pinching themselves that they were actually getting married at last.

“I had a ball. They all welcomed me, kept thanking me for doing this and were shocked when I said I wasn’t ‘staying for a feed’.”

Currently on maternity leave, Turner will be back delivering the news for Mix 102.3 and Cruise 1323 in the new year. Until then, she’ll be marrying another couple next month, three in March and another in April.
