Marcus Paul moves to Starter FM

It was in early February this year Marcus Paul penned an open letter exclusively for Radio Today, addressing his departure from 2SM.

The talk radio host was sacked after an inappropriate reference to the tragic death of a schoolgirl in a news quiz and subsequently apologised for the “completely inappropriate” giveaway quiz, which mentioned an alleged murder victim.

Now on Starter FM, the program will focus on a modern take of today’s news and politics.

Speaking exclusively to Radio Today on his appointment Paul said, “After I left 2SM Daniel and Alex from StarterFM approached me to see if I wanted to bring my show to their online station – and as they had just got themselves on the iHeart Radio platform.

“I thought it was a good fit … a two-hour show of news, opinion, and interviews (similar to what I did on 2SM).

“We will initially air for two hours and then podcast the content too. Hopefully, we will be able to raise some sponsorship to enable the show to run longer – and eventually include live callers.

“It’s exciting, and I’ll be working my backside off to make it successful! I think there is a market for this kind of show – providing a modern take on politics and news aimed at the 18- to 50-year-old market.”

Marcus Paul in the Morning kicks off Monday, March 7th from 7 am until 9 am weekdays.

It will be hard for Marcus to build a quality audience because 2 hours a day of Scott Morrison bashing can get very tedious

He will probably have more listeners that he did at 2SM. But who cares.

Oh dear, so much visceral hatred on these posts. One questions the commenters take on reality, how aware are they on the amount of work that goes into a radio shift? Prepare the material, research the content, and be awarded an audience for ones efforts. It seems any sort of success in the media industry for anyone who is left of centre is frowned upon, and rusted on conservatives think they should be the only once allowed on high powered broadcasters.

Be honest, this is why Bill sacked him, because if it wasn’t for him not having enough audience, then this would have been reflected in his social feeds, obviously Marcus’s take on current affairs was getting up Bill’s “you know what”… send your visceral hatred to him instead.

I wouldn’t be saying this normally for some guy I don’t know, but if Marcus has over 15,000 followers on the socials, then he’s obviously doing something right. He’s made a mistake, people need to move on, and get over it.

Given the amount of vitriol thrown at Marcus Paul over the last few weeks, I’m beginning to think that he should consider moving away from legacy platforms (i.e. radio and the MSM) and start his own YouTube channel. It worked for Michael West and John Cadogan…

Perfect fall from self appointed grace. I’m sure Albo, Chalmers, Bowen, Bourke and Keneally will be the first guests.

Wonder if he’ll bring his quiz when there’s callers

I find it incomprehensible that we cannot write our own opinion without it being labelled Vitriol – it’s called – “opinion” being the operative word and we have that right to express whatever opinion according to the moderator – we don’t live in Russia we live in Australia where we are lucky to be able to voice an opinion to an certain extent – I think most people with a brain know the extent of the behind the scenes work that goes into any job be it a commentator on radio to a train driver…if people don’t like their performance then so be it…

An awful lot of people here in the comment section need to:

1. Get a hobby
2. Turn off caps lock when typing
3. Freshen up on spelling
4. Move on

I am enjoying the prawncast and think it’s fresh and exciting.

I hope he gets a lot of success and sponsorship

Marcus
I really enjoyed your program when you were with 2sm. You always presented a fair program by having both sides of politics on your program. I live in Lismore and am okay but I will try and listen to your show. We need presenters like you on radio. I am not surprised that you have got another job. All the best with your personal life too. You were a breath of fresh air when you were with 2sm.

Hi Marcus, just found out where you have gone to. I know you want a younger audience but at 74 yrs I thought your show at 2sm was just what I was looking for. Firstly more modern music (one can only listen to Rolling Stones and Led Zep for just so long), secondly, I am a swinging voter but I wanted to hear more from Labor and other pollies, like Mark Latham and Pauline Hanson, thirdly, your treatment by 2sm was appalling. You are a very good radio presenter, you reached your audience in the same way Ward (Pally) Austin did 50 years ago, ie: you were one of them and at my age I am qualified to judge. All the best for your radio (& personal) futures. In the words of Don Chipp you certainly did’nt let the “bstds” get you down!

Marcus Paul, not sorry to see the back of that unfunny Alan Partridge. At least Alan Partridge had an audience. Lawsy’s happy, he’s finally going to get a lead-in audience at 2SM

Our household misses Marcus in the Morning. Marcus Paul and his audience were like a breath of fresh air and most of his comments were not biased. Other commentators on radio talk back were so biased you could actually know who they voted for and they all seem to plugg for the Liberal/ National Parties. We note that most of the commercial radio stations only choose presenters that show bias to the above mentioned parties which is a pity as this sort of action stifles FREE SPEECH. Hopefully one day we will be able to get Marcus back on our local stations and enjoy his company and the comments of his audience. We now only listen to the local ABC which can be a little boring at times.
