Legends with Bevo podcast celebrates 6 years, but hackers gatecrash the party

Bevan ‘Bevo’ Jones can’t quite believe how far he’s come in the podcasting realm.

It’s now been six years since he started interviewing the superstars of sport and legends of comedy, finding out what makes them tick.

On the Legends with Bevo podcast, guests the calibre of Wally Lewis, Phil Liggett, Shaun Burgoyne, Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann, Mark Woodforde, Warren Tredrea and Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello share their highs and lows – and all the weird stuff in between.

That includes the Olympian who enjoyed water fights with other athletes and the comedian who got stuck in Antarctica, of all places.

As both producer and host of the show, Bevo’s feel-good, one-on-one chats have garnered a loyal following and now – almost 250 guests later – he’s still pinching himself.

“It really is surreal,” Bevo tells Radio Today.

“I never thought when I started in April 2018 that I would still be going six years later.”

It’s a fitting reward for all the effort he’s put in over the years.

“I really enjoy getting to hear the stories of their ups and downs,” says Bevo. “That’s what I love most about the show.”

No stranger to the media world, the former Breakfast radio host and now journalist with The Murray Standard is also a corporate host and ground announcer for the Port Adelaide Footy Club.

As well as that, Bevo provides special comments and stats on-air as part of the Cluch Radio basketball coverage for the Adelaide 36ers home games.

He successfully manages to juggle those commitments with his podcast, every episode of which offers a fascinating insight into each guest.

“I count myself lucky to have great guests,” says Bevo. “You’ll come away with some fun and quirky stories.”

Legends with Bevo was nominated Best Interview Program at the 2023 Antenna Awards.

However, the six year celebrations have been bittersweet.

Bevo says unfortunately, online hackers recently managed to spoil the party.

“I went to log in to my personal Facebook and a message popped up saying that my account had been suspended and disabled due to breaching community standards.”

Bevo says the hackers got into his account and effectively took over.

“They are also posting inappropriate videos on my Legends with Bevo page.”

Bevo says despite reporting these to Facebook, the situation is yet to be resolved.

“It’s extra frustrating as it’s ruining my brand’s reputation.”

It also serves as a warning to the rest of us.

“My message is to regularly change your passwords and make them as difficult as possible for hackers to be able to access your account,” says Bevo.

“I would also set up multi factor authentication again, just as an extra security measure.”
