KIISMAS keeps the Christmas magic alive in Brisbane

Brisbane’s iconic festive tradition of making the streets sparkle is set to continue in 2022 with a new partnership between KIIS 97.3FM Brisbane, 7 News and Lighting Illusions.

The 36-year strong Christmas lights competition is a favourite tradition in the Brisbane community. 2021 saw hundreds of homes showing off dazzling Christmas light displays across Brisbane.

Launching in September, the 2022 iteration – aptly named KIIS 973 KIISmas Lights – is set to ramp up the competition with a $20,000 prize pool.

KIIS 97.3FM Brisbane Content Director Ali Longhurst says “Christmas Lights has a huge heritage in Brisbane, and after being carried by our sister station 4KQ for many years, we are excited to keep the tradition alive in the ARN family, with a fresh KIIS twist.”

“We know (and love) how the Brisbane community gets behind the Christmas Lights competition, and we are thrilled to be taking the reins together with 7News and Lighting Illusions to make this year’s Christmas Lights one to remember.”

Entries will open in September at KIIS973.com.au, with Brisbanites invited to untangle their lights, dust off their Santa hats and get in the spirit, with a bit of healthy competition always welcome. Entrants will be in the running to take home a share in the $20,000 cash pool.

Competition judging will take place in November 2022, with finalists being unveiled on KIIS 97.3FM’s breakfast show Robin, Terry & Kip on Thursday, 1 December. All of Brisbane will be encouraged to go and visit all Christmas Lights displays from 1 – 24 December 2022.

This is going to be a huge ratings driver for Kiis.

They’re already dominant number 1 in over 55’s and this will pick back up all those other 4QK lovers who may have moved to 4BC or thought Laurel, Gary and Mark might continue the lights.

Really smart programming to go even older and stand against the AM stations and capture 4KQ and take it to ABC / 4BC like they are. It will make Smooth think twice before entering in Brisbane.
