Karratha announcer attempting world records

Staff Writer

Another week, another world record attempt.

That’s life for a Karratha breakfast radio host who’ll tomorrow let his fiancé of just one week attempt to shave his moustache in world-record time.

Pablo Newton Farley (left) admitted the idea was ‘probably a mistake’.

The Spirit 1260 announcer is going for one record attempt per week until the end of the year in the hope that, by the end of it, he’ll lay claim to holding the most world records.

That title is currently held by Ashrita Furman, who set 148 records in 2012.

Newton Farley got off to a slow start with his record attempts.

In week one, he tried to put on as many T-shirts as he could in on minute. He needed 31 but only managed 10.

In week two, he was unable to eat a lemon in less than eight seconds.

And in week three, Newton Farley and his co-workers unsuccessfully tried to catch tennis balls while wearing boxing gloves.

But Newton Farley and Angie Ayers (pictured above) have been more successful with two other attempts. They unofficially equaled a record for hula hooping and shooting basketballs and then took the record for ‘most kilometres ridden in an hour while hosting a live radio show’. They cracked an impressive 27.2 kilometres.
